“Always fascinated by Artaud’s theories and poetics, I have never stopped engaging with him, interpreting him or using him for my artistic actions and reflections on theatre and art in general, with an approach that is not intellectual but as practical as possible. Reading his writings, or perhaps between the lines, I became convinced that making theatre should be placed alongside making music, if not actually considered the same thing. A few years ago I began underlining all those sentences containing terms such as musicality, voice, sound, sonorities, both the more obvious ones and those expressly referring to musical matters and more generally to a musical conception, and I then composed or decomposed each of them into a collage together with images of Artaud, his drawings or images directly concerning him, a sort of visual poetry.”
From this was born a large-format artist’s book of 112 pages composed of two sections:
- The first consists of critical contributions by highly esteemed scholars: Franco Ruffini, Florinda Cambria, Vincenza Di Vita and Samantha Marenzi, together with an essay by Simona Bartolena concerning the collages.
- The second section presents a selection of collages and, on the facing pages, contributions by actors, musicians, scholars and friends.
