Winter Scares Me takes the sea as its starting point: a place of belonging for some, a place of separation for others, a place to cross for others still, an island of arrival but also a place of pain and loss. A physical and poetic journey through the stories of the Mediterranean, where myth and reality merge together. The work is born from listening to the memories that inhabit bodies and shores: ancient and contemporary shipwrecks, voices of forgotten Gods and human desires that resist time. The performance intertwines gesture, silence and presence in a dance that explores the warmth and violence of the Mediterranean, and the deep fear of the winter sea – darker, crueller, truer.
Daria Barbone and Alessia Marra are two Italian contemporary dancers based in Hamburg. Both graduated from the Contemporary Dance School Hamburg (CDSH) in 2025 and are currently involved in the production of Die Stadt der träumenden Bücher at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg.
