a philosophical and historical-artistic itinerary
The word performance is now omnipresent: it is encountered in technology, sport, management, entertainment and even neuroscience, almost always in relation to the concept of achievement. But the field of the performative is much broader and more complex, so much so that it can be investigated from different perspectives – including the philosophical one, so far generally neglected. Giacomo Fronzi guides us through this exploration, showing how the performative is a dimension we constantly inhabit, even outside the artistic practices that have elaborated it the most: theatre, performance art, music and dance. Through these four traditions, the author also reconstructs the key moments that gave shape to what is called the “performative turn”. Philosophical analysis and historical-artistic reconstruction thus combine in an original and dynamic journey through the multifaceted and astonishing universe of performance.
