For the thirtieth anniversary of the creation of OEDIPUS – Tragedy of the Senses for One Spectator, the Lemming has decided to revive a pedagogical-performance project called OEDIPUS OF THE THOUSAND. Through an intense workshop activity, the project aims to prepare a group of students and lead them – guided by an actor from the company – to realise the Lemming’s manifesto performance. On the one hand, the project is conceived as pedagogical, because it leads young actors to directly experience a complete dramaturgy; on the other hand, it is conceived as a Garibaldian challenge launched at the Italian theatre system: a single spectator where, in the society of consumption, spectacular communication increasingly addresses an undifferentiated mass.
The work leads the spectator towards a sensory and emotional explosion, establishing a profound intimacy between strangers, a strong sense of brotherhood even within the evocation of a myth, tragic par excellence, such as that of Oedipus.
For Teatro del Lemming, Oedipus – Tragedy of the Senses for One Spectator is the first part of the cycle called Tetralogy of the Spectator. The work involves the direct, dramaturgical and sensory involvement of one blindfolded spectator per performance during the event.
