QUALE TEATRO PER QUESTO PRESENTE?

In collaboration with the magazine LA FALENA

In its latest issue, La Falena magazine, together with a large group of collaborators, tried to question the theater world in a challenging mood.
“What is the point of continuing with theatre? After two terrible years of pandemic, why theatre? When most of our lives, from work to socializing, take place in the virtual world, why theatre? Faced with the tragedies of wars, why theatre? When media remind us daily that the tipping point has been passed and we are inexorably approaching the end of the world, why theatre? When the largest party in our country is made up of citizens who have decided not to vote anymore, why theatre? When the institutions often repeat that right now "there are far more serious things to think about", why theatre? Faced with an increasingly tired and distracted population, why theatre? If it's so difficult to engage new audiences, why theatre?"
We all hoped that, after the pandemic, the resumption of activities could be accompanied by a broader reflection on theatre system and on the meaning of theatre today. This has not happened, except in small part. Old vices and bad practices have been joined by the neurosis of lost time, a worrying drop in resources and the widespread perception of living in a moment of general abandonment.
We have thus decided to accept these questions and try to discuss them publicly together with artists, critics, operators, spectators in a small plural "theater assembly" open to everyone's contribution.
