CHE CAVOLO GUARDI?

for the girls and boys of the high schools of Rovigo

Within the project of the Paleocapa Scientific High School of Rovigo "The Five Senses of the Actor - experimentation with the languages ​​of the scene" winner of the PER CHI CREA call promoted by MiC-Ministero della Cultura and SIAE, the Opera Prima Festival is organizing a free workshop of theater criticism aimed at high school students in Rovigo.

The workshop, held from June 26 to 30, will be led by the critic Michele Pascarella who will follow a group of girls and boys during the entire program of the Festival, carrying out in-depth work on the gaze and leading them to produce written works that will be published online on a special page of our Festival website.

When I look, what do I look at and, above all, how do I look? Here is a short journey to realize that the way we look at and name things changes things.

To "watch oneself watch", the philosopher would say.

The object to watch: some shows, very different from each other. Watch them and then tell about them. Separating as much as possible what you see from your own opinion: they are both important things, but they are -precisely- different things.

We will tell the shows that we will see at the Festival Opera Prima XX with written words. But also with drawings, if you want, or in other forms.

Through a large number of examples (from the history of theatre, visual arts and literature), some exercises in looking and writing and many dialogues, we will try to become spectators (and more broadly, citizens) a little more aware.

No specific skills are required, just curiosity and the desire to question the elementary and decisive gesture of the gaze and how it, often unconsciously, creates reality. Looking, telling, noticing: it will ultimately be a matter of seeking that diminution of the self that alone allows the world, even the strange one of the stage, to reveal itself.
