Al-Jahim is a site-specific immersive theater project that reflects on the condition of confinement. A small group of spectators is led along a path in which the concept of "freedom", by shifting one's point of view, becomes slippery, murky, difficult to grasp. Prisons, migratory routes and the descent into hell in the Divine Comedy are starting points that cross meanings and questions about our contemporary: Al-Jahim, which in Arabic means "the pains of hell", brings to the stage a reflection on Libyan places of detention as a mirror of a submerged reality, a reality that can find and raise meanings and questions about the contemporary world. A contemporaneity in which the words freedom and imprisonment resonate with perhaps greater force today.
SlowMachine is an artistic reality directed by Rajeev Badhan and Elena Strada that works on the contamination of the arts. It was born in Belluno in 2012 with the need to create a pole that encompassed the diffusion and production of theatrical and performative works with particular attention to new languages and the interaction between theater and docu-cinema. Since 2021 SlowMachine has been recognized by the Ministry of Culture as an innovation theater production company in the field of experimentation.
