Under the Flesh is a contemporary dance show that deals with the theme of the body in war situations. How can our body, reacting to a death threat that is perceived by our survival instinct, turn all this into a dance?
A dance based on imaginary rules and techniques that have been meticulously transformed into a fairy tale that helps overcome the war machine. It tells a personal story, the story of a body that has survived four consecutive wars.
The work was born in fact in a very particular and specific political context: four wars that took place in southern Lebanon in 1993, 1996, 2000 and 2006. The story of a true and painful experience of conflicts in which war is experienced outside the its policy.
"For 35 minutes I want to put the audience at the center of a death-threatening situation, through choreography, music and a story pervaded by a particular and original humor."

Bassam Abou Diab is a Lebanese actor, dancer and choreographer specializing in contemporary dance and folklore. For several years he has been a dancer of the Maqamat Dance Company, where he is a performer in the shows "Mushrooms and Fig Leaves", "Hibr", "That Part of Heaven" and "Watadour". Bassam is part of APAP (Association of Performing Arts Presenters) - Performing Europe 2020.
Bassam is currently carrying out several workshops in Lebanon and throughout Europe: Dabke workshops (folkloristic dance widespread in different countries of the Middle East), Contemporary Dabke, Contemporary Dance and on Rituals and movements (rituals and movements workshop).
