“All words hint at a lost word that you can feel beating
at the bottom of every breathe” Maria Zambrano
Bringing poetry into the theater, to me it means ride the acoustic vertigo of the verse, showing the clear efficiency of the subtle but powerful energy that we call 'poetry', make its rhythm and melody be heard and make bodies resonate with the poetic word. When poetry becomes sound, it's not only the mind, but the whole body, the one that accepts the vibrations of the sound waves; and the intensity of the feelings becomes the same we feel with music. The body is the maximum expert on joy. I hope it'll be nice to feel the sudden joy poetry can give us, how it nurtures our withered inner reality, starved by an age that wants us to be always in a rush, outside of ourselves, busy with its unlimited decrees. Nostalgia delle cose impossibili keeps together words and silence, exhortation and reflection, invocation and invectives, curses and prayers.
Mariangela Gualtieri was born in Cesena, in Romagna. She has a degree in Architecture from IUAV in Venice. In 1983, she founded with director Cesare Ronconi, the Teatro Valdoca, where she is playwright. Since her beginnings, she's been interested in the orality of poetry, with particular attention to voice amplifications and the association between poetic verse and live music. Among her texts: Antenata (ed. Cesena 2012), A Seneghe. Mariangela Gualtieri/Guido Guidi (Perda Sonadora Imprentas, 2012), Le giovani parole (Einaudi, 2015), Voci di tenebra azzurra (Stampa 2009 ed., 2016), Beast of joy. Selected poems (Chelsea edition, New York, 2018). She has co-authored the Album dei Giuramenti/Tavole dei Giuramenti (Quodlibet 2019) by Teatro Valdoca.
