Hyenas is a masked ball. Five characters arrive on the stage of a theatre. They cyclically perform a presentation, a preparation, a dance. Through successive unmasking they evoke generational pictures also linked to the contemporary world of youth, thus expressing the different modes of their being: on the one hand the ‘global’ uniformity of the herd and its need for contact with the tribal, the archetype and the myth; on the other the violent and solitary sneer of the hyena.
‘With the metaphor of a masked ball we intend to stage faces of contemporary humanity and its fundamental incapacity for silence. Perhaps it only belongs to the mask: the final state where that marvellous metamorphosis that is the expression of every face and body can converge and end.’
From the experience of New York in the school of Alwin Nikolais to the French studies with Dominique Dupuy, through the 'poetic' improvisations of Carolyn Carlson, the study and practice of zen, Michele Abbondanza (co-founder of the group Sosta Palmizi and teacher at the Scuola di Teatro del Piccolo in Milan) and Antonella Bertoni founded the Compagnia Abbondanza/Bertoni, recognized as one of the most prolific artistic realities of the Italian panorama for their creations, for the educational and training activities and for the dissemination of contemporary dance theatre.
