In the ever-growing list of musicians of academic extraction who aspire to the daring liaison between the classical world and indie audiences, Federico Albanese is the Italian name that is making its way between a Nils Frahm and an Olafur Arnalds. Milanese by birth, Berlin by artistic adoption, Albanese is back on tour with his third album By The Deep Sea, a minimal, highly evocative and highly refined work.

'By The Deep Sea represents a state of mind I find myself in quite often. It is a kind of meditative state, when I try to detach myself from everyday life. In this inner world there is room to get closer to our deepest thoughts, ideas, doubts, being close enough to be able to see them clearly, from the right distance, and thus be able to process them, exorcise them, translate them into something else’.

Federico Albanese was born in Milan, Italy in 1982. His compositions are airy and cinematic and blend classical, electronic and psychedelic music. His debut solo album, The Houseboat and the Moon (2014), has been described as ‘pure gold’ and ‘one of the most beautiful albums of modern classical music in recent years’. The second album, The Blue Hour (2016) and the follow-up By The Deep Sea (2018), released via the legendary Berlin Classics, are a blend of compositional precision and dreamlike fluidity. In 2020, Albanese signed a contract with Mercury KX, home of innovative composers and musicians such as Anoushka Shankar, Ólafur Arnalds and Keaton Henson.
