L'eco della falena (The echo of the moth) is an exploration of time as memory, happy memory of childhood, traumatic memory, which becomes absence and lack, a time that flows and takes away loved ones, that heals and ages our bodies, that transforms actions into habit, a time that we would like to violently possess, to manage, but that slips from our hands and is often afraid of the future because it is unknown. Waiting souls, inspired by the life and works of Virginia Woolf, materialise on stage revealing their melancholic nature to us.
Despite the literary references, there are no characters or history, but figures and a place. A woman guides us through the meanders of her room, which stands for her inner world. At the back of the room are two large closed doors, representing the future, a suspended space-time that invites us to imagine what lies beyond. The woman is unable to open them, perhaps out of fear of what she does not know, but the doors will open to bring memory to light.
Cantiere Artaud is a theatre research collective founded in Arezzo in 2016 by Sara Bonci and Ciro Gallorano. In 2020, the company was recognised by the Region of Tuscany as a young prose formation. The name of the association underlines the desire to always be ready for new experimentation and is intended as a tribute to Antonin Artaud, the forerunner of a theatre that tends to stir the nerves. Cantiere Artaud wants to be a place for the rediscovery of archetypes, of cathartic values, according to the idea that truth lies in symbolism and ritual. The spectator is asked to let himself be led inside a labyrinth made of small gestures and primordial sounds, silences and shadows.
