A guided viewing workshop led by Michele Pascarella

Once again this year, Festival Opera Prima presents a viewing workshop open to spectators of all ages. Led by theatre critic Michele Pascarella, the workshop will guide participants in a deep exploration of how we look—leading to the creation of written reflections that will be published online on a dedicated page of the Festival’s website.

What am I looking at when I watch something—and above all, how do I look at it?
To "watch oneself watching", as the philosopher might say.
The object of observation: a selection of very different performances.
To watch them—and then tell their story.

Through a wide range of examples (from the history of theatre, visual arts, and literature), exercises in observation and writing, and lots of conversation, we will try to become more conscious spectators (and more broadly, citizens). No specific experience is required—just curiosity and a desire to question the simple yet decisive act of watching, and how it unconsciously shapes reality. To watch, to recount, to notice: ultimately, it’s about seeking that diminishment of self which alone allows the world—even the strange world of the stage—to reveal itself.
