Concept, choreography, and dance by Anna Ozerskaia
Music by Charlie Chaplin, arranged and performed by Lars Hjertner and Per Larsson
Part One is a short solo created as part of the “one on one” project, conceived during the pandemic by Katrin Hall, artistic director of the Gothenburg Opera Dance Company. Due to COVID-related restrictions, it was not possible at the time to welcome large audiences. Hence the idea: each dancer in the company was invited to create a solo inspired by that suspended moment in time, to be performed for just one spectator at a time. Part One is an intimate and sincere reflection on the pandemic period as an unforeseen moment— a choreographic gesture born from the need to express, remember, and share. Originally designed for a single viewer, this solo now opens to a slightly wider audience while preserving its deeply personal strength. The title, Part One, hints that time has passed and much has happened since. Perhaps, a sequel is on the way.
Anna Ozerskaia was born and raised in Saint Petersburg, where she began her professional journey. At 25, she moved abroad. Over the past ten years, she has danced with the Gothenburg Opera Ballet Company, collaborating with numerous internationally renowned choreographers and artists. Despite being part of a large company, she has always nurtured a deep interest in an art that can “comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable.” This is why she is drawn to performances in intimate settings—where full attention can be given to a single story. Because every person, she believes, has a story to tell.
